I recently toured Hotel Retlaw located in downtown Fond Du Lac. The former owner, Walter Schroeder built the hotel in 1923. The hotel name(Retlaw) comes from Walters first name spelled backwards. If his name sounds familiar, he built the Schroeder Hotel in Milwaukee which is now the Hilton Milwaukee City Center, The Astor Hotel and the former Hotel Wisconsin along with other hotels in Northern Wisconsin and Minnesota.
The hotel has recently undergone an extensive renovation to the tune of $27 million dollars and opened this year for business. It's been restored to it's full grandeur with a beautiful chandelier that sits prominently in the lobby, art deco furniture that was designed specifically for the hotel and a beautiful tiled floor that provides that historic, new feel as you enter the lobby. The hotel has 121 guest rooms and suites and features almost 10,000 sq. ft. of meeting space and offers a very unique hands-on activity program for corporate or association groups.
